P2P

Peer-to-peer, more commonly known as P2P, refers to computer systems that communicate to each other through a network without passing through a central server. Each computer on the network communicates with each other computer. In simpler terms, it's the practice of making computer files available to other users on the same network. This is more commonly seen through the sharing of music and videos through the internet.  Torrenting or pirating music, movies and books have become a common practice amongst internet users. The largest pirating site was "thepiratebay", but they were charged with copyright infringements leading to their ultimate downfall but throughout the year other copycat websites have popped up, taken down and popped back up on the internet in an endless cycle. This practice makes it incredibly easy for users to stream movies and tv shows, listen to music, read books without paying a single dime for them. This results in huge losses for writers, publi

Wiki So Far

I haven't added any content to the Wiki's as of yet but so far I have been researching information to add to the categories Love and Social Networking. For the category love, I have been looking up different types of mobile apps that aren't already on the wiki such as Minder, Coffee Meets Bagel and Muzmatch. They're not as popular because they are so geared towards Muslim and Desi people. I have been looking up reviews and talking to my own friends about their experiences using the apps. For Social Networking, I wanted to add more information about social media influencers, especially in the bookstagram-sphere, which is the instagram community tailored to bookworms. I hope to include information on how some influencers have turned a social media account into full time jobs as well. I also want to focus on more tailored communities on instagram such as the ones for writers and photographers.

Privacy

With media, one of the biggest issues is privacy. Privacy in relation to media is the invasion of information and data. It’s a common sentiment amongst social media users, that a users privacy is not protected. Facebook sells your private information to private companies so they can target ads towards you. Recently, it was said that Facebook messenger tracks your conversations. Furthermore, it’s common for many users to see data branches. Platforms such as credit karma will notify users when their informations were found in data breach dumps. I’ve lost track of how many times, I’ve gotten emails from credit karma notifying me that my username and password was found in a data breach dump and I’ve had to change my password. No matter how small your social media presence is, how private you try to make your account, nothing is truly private. Something or someone is always watching. However, no matter how frustrating the lack of privacy is, or how angry it makes users, there hasn’t been a

Advice

If I were to be hired by Baruch College to use new media to improve the college, these are some of my suggestions:  - One suggestion would be to implement more online courses. There are only a select number of online courses for each subject and some subjects don’t even have online classes available at all. Online courses are helpful for students who aren’t able to dedicate as much time to in-person classes. Because it is online, scheduling in time for the classes is flexible. Furthermore, it teaches students responsibility and time management, as they are responsible for reminding themselves of deadlines. For example, me personally, I missed a lot of deadlines or ended up leaving the work till the last minute because I forgot about deadlines and it was my responsibility to do so.  - Another suggestion, would be to implement twitter discussion. It teaches students to be concise and requires students to interact with one another. It also allows for the students t
